The mother of a good friend died two weeks ago. While I never had the privilege of meeting her, I know several people whose lives she strongly impacted for good. Knowing the beautiful, kind, and God-centered woman that is her daughter, I have no doubt she was an amazing lady.
The Bible verse that was the focus of the funeral was Matthew 5:8, one of the beatitudes:
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
This week, I took Matthew 5:8 and, as a gift for my friend and in honor and memory of her mother, created a wall plaque. Yellow roses were the favorite flower of my friend’s mother, so they served as a fitting compliment to the scripture.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3-10 (NIV)
