My husband and I spent the 4th of July weekend in WV, where I grew up, and Sunday was occupied with a wonderful trip to Valley Falls State Park, near Fairmont, WV. Here are a few photos from our weekend adventures. Enjoy!
The iPad Cover and iPad Cover/Stand orders just keep coming, so I took all my sewing supplies with me so I could get work done over the weekend.
We all had a great time climbing around on the rocks and examining the falls and whitewater rapids from various angles.
Valley Falls has a long and varied history. It was an Indian Reservation in the early 1800s and then became a bustling homesite for white settlers in the mid-1800s. A fire in the 1860s wiped out most of the nearly 1,000 homes in valley, and a flood several years later finished the job. Throughout this whole time, the river was used to power a grist mill, which is where this stone originally had its home.
No 4th of July celebration is complete without watermelon! 🙂
A kayaker was enjoying the rapids for much of the time we were at the park. It was so much fun watching him tumble over the falls, only to pop up quickly on the other side.
I hope you and your family had a safe and happy 4th of July.
