I chose today’s scripture partly because it speaks of exactly the weather I’m fervently praying will bless this weekend’s Cheat River Festival Art Market, and also partly because today is the first truly beautiful day we’ve had in Cincinnati in quite a while.
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
– Song of Solomon 2:11-13
In addition to speaking of a nice idea of actual weather, this scripture passage is an inspiring depiction of spiritual “weather.” After a time of trials and troubles – “winter” – the Lord often grants us a period of renewal and regrowth – “spring.” Indeed, it is only because of the refining experience of difficulties that the Lord is able to shape us such that we can begin to bear the fruit of a refreshed spirit and a revitalized purpose.
May this spring bring to you and your family a time of renewed hearts and minds.
