The image of the tree plays an important role in many of my designs, such as the God’s Gospel Wall Plaque and the Invisible Orchard Wall Plaque. The tree’s symbolism of strength and power is inspirational and, as such, perfectly suited to the uplifting wall plaques I seek to create.
There’s something about the elegant stature of these magnificent plants that just lets the imagination run wild. For me, it’s incredible to think about the trees surrounding me that were planted before I was born and will still be growing and providing shade to passersby long after I die.
(And, on a much more mundane level, the shape of a tree, with both roots and branches, is a relatively straight-forward form to create from a sheet of clay, but it looks really cool!)
For this cold and rainy day, here are two tree-related quotes to ponder:
The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.
– Nelson Henderson
He who plants a tree
Plants a hope.
– Lucy Larcom, “Plant a Tree”
