Recipe Jars – Drink Mixes

Jennifer’s Favorite Recipe Jars:

Drink Mixes in a Jar

These recipes are all found on the crafting website www.allfreecrafts.com.

While drink mixes aren’t quite as attractive as soup mixes when given as a recipe jar, they are no less delicious. Perhaps find a beautiful opaque jar for your drink mix gifts so the uniform color of the drink mix doesn’t detract from the overall aesthetic of the gift. And believe me – your gift will certainly be appreciated!

Spiced Tea Mix

The spices in this recipe are cinnamon, cloves and ginger, and the infused flavors are pleasantly noticeable but not overpowering. As a special occasion drink, the spiced tea works well at Thanksgiving or at Christmas, when the cold nip in the air makes a hot spiced drink very welcome.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups of orange breakfast drink (like Tang)

3/4 cup iced tea mix

1.5 cups white sugar

2 tsp. ground cinnamon

2 tsp. ground cloves

1 tsp. ground ginger

(Makes about 4 cups)

Directions:

Stir all ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Pour into the jar (a funnel is useful for this but not absolutely necessary) and cap with a screw top lid, firmly screwed down.

Write these instructions on your gift tag:

Place three teaspoons of Tea Mix in a cup. Stir in boiling water. Garnish with a twist of orange or lemon peel and cinnamon sticks, if desired. Serve hot.

Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Drink Mix

This recipe is a nice variation on a standard hot chocolate drink, and cinnamon is a healthy addition to the ingredients, particularly appealing for those who love the taste and fragrance of this popular spice.

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups nonfat milk powder

1 cup icing sugar

1/2 cup cocoa

1/2 cup nondairy creamer

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 cup miniature marshmallows

optional: 2 or 3 cinnamon sticks to decorate the jar

Directions:

In a large bowl, thoroughly stir together milk powder, sugar, cocoa, creamer and cinnamon. Gently stir in marshmallows. Pour Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Mix into an airtight jar. Can be stored in a cool, dry place for about three months.

Write these instructions on your gift tag:

Add 3 tablespoons of Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Drink Mix to your favorite mug. Fill mug with hot milk (about 3/4 cup) and stir well.
